Workshop on Center for IT and Society

A workshop on Center for IT and Society has been organized at IIIT-Delhi on Saturday, 17th September 2016.

The workshop highlights on the process of establishing a center on IT and Society, which will focus on studying relationships and impact of ICTs and Internet on society and the role that society plays in shaping them, particularly in India. The center will bring together faculty in various HSS disciplines like anthropology, communication and media studies, sociology, policy, psychology, philosophy of science and technology, etc, who will work in collaboration with the ICT faculty of the Institute for these studies/ research. The plan to start an interdisciplinary program in IT and Social Sciences will also be considered.

Key features of the workshop:

  • Session 1: There will be sessions conducted during the workshop to focus on concept, desirability and scope of the center.
  • Session 2: Course structure of the proposed program.
  • Session 3: Reviewing the proposed program.
  • Session 4: Faculty (core/ visiting) recruitment plans, various PhD granting agencies, similar organizations across the world, etc.

Session 2 (11:30 - 13:00): BTech in IT + Social Sciences Program
Program goals and broad initial structure - Dheeraj Sanghi, Dean Academics
Discussion: desirability of the program, goals or graduate attributes of such a program, suggestions on program structure...

13:00 - 14:00 : Lunch

Session 3 (14:00-15:00) : Summary of the discussions on IT + Social Sciences program.

Session 4 (15:00-16:00) : Faculty Selection & Advancement

Discussion - which disciplines to initially focus on, desired profile of faculty, universities we should focus on for recruitment, support institute needs to provide for the faculty, collaboration etc...
